What a local GEO specialist does

A local GEO specialist makes sure a local business is mentioned when someone asks an AI tool for a provider nearby. That work overlaps strongly with local SEO: a strong Google Business Profile, genuine reviews, a clear website and mentions elsewhere.

AI also appears in local searches: according to the figures on localrankingsfactoren.nl, Google showed an AI Overview for 21.8% of purely local searches in August 2026 (localrankingsfactoren.nl). And in each region, AI tools often name different, smaller agencies than nationally (Gold Lemon, September 2026). Read more in local AI visibility for business owners.

What a (local) GEO specialist is assessed on

  • What clients say when we call: three clients, chosen by lot.
  • Reviews on several platforms: weighted, so that a handful of five-star reviews does not beat a hundred genuine ratings.
  • Proven results: more phone calls, direction requests, branded searches or enquiries from the region, with dates.
  • What the specialist does themselves: Business Profile, reviews, local pages, mentions, technical work, evidence beyond the website.
  • Honest measurement: local AI questions with a place name, dozens of repetitions per AI tool, no positions.

Why independents get their own list

An independent has no team, but often more direct involvement. In a single list with agencies they would lose points on team criteria. That is why we assess independents on having proper cover arranged for illness or holidays. Agencies are listed in the ranking of the best GEO agency.

Frequently asked questions

What is a local GEO specialist?

A specialist who makes sure a local business is mentioned when someone asks an AI tool for a provider nearby, and who also gets the Google Business Profile, reviews and local mentions in order.

How does that differ from a GEO agency?

An independent usually works alone or with regular partners. That is why independents get their own list and are not penalised for team size, but are assessed on having proper cover arranged.

Is local GEO something other than local SEO?

Largely not. A strong Business Profile, genuine reviews, a clear website and mentions elsewhere count for Google Maps and for AI answers. The difference is that you also measure whether AI tools mention you. See also: Measuring AI visibility with the ten-times rule.

Do Google reviews count?

Yes, within the client opinion pillar, together with reviews on other platforms. We use a weighted average, so that three five-star reviews do not automatically beat a hundred genuine ratings.

How do you measure local AI visibility?

With questions as people ask them, including a place name, each asked dozens of times per AI tool. We count how often a name comes back, not in which position.

What does a high LSAI score say?

That the clients we spoke to ourselves are satisfied, that the results can be demonstrated and that the specialist measures honestly. It does not say that this specialist is the best choice for your business.

Can I find a specialist in my region?

From edition 1 you can filter by province and town.

What if a specialist disagrees with their score?

They see their scorecard five working days before publication and can report factual errors. The score itself is not negotiable. Corrections are listed in the corrections log.

Why is the founder not included?

Because a ranking in which the publisher competes is not an independent ranking. Gijs Bodenstaff and his own brands are not ranked.

How do I choose a (local) GEO specialist in the meantime?

Ask the ten questions from our tool, ask for three clients you choose yourself, measure your own AI visibility with the tally sheet and do not accept any promised position or guarantee.
